The Introverted Musician/Artist

I'm a very firm believer that introverts come from every and all walks of life. From the most analytic thinkers to the free spirited creative minds, introverts are making their positive contributions to the world. I couldn't help but to write about musicians in the industry who are also introverted personalities.

As I was driving home one evening, I heard this song that came on the radio (which is very popular right now) and really caught my attention. The young lady was singing about this party that she went to although she didn't really want to be there. She was only there because she came with her friends. It was really catchy and at the same time I could completely relate to what she was saying. Below are a few excerpts from the song by Alessia Cara:

"Here" :

I'm sorry if I seem uninterested Or I'm not listenin' or I'm indifferent Truly, I ain't got no business here But since my friends are here I just came to kick it but really I would rather be at home all by myself not in this room With people who don't even care about my well-being

So tell my friends that I'll be over here

Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here oh oh oh

I ask myself what am I doing here?

Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here

And I can't wait till we can break up outta here

Excuse me if I seem a little unimpressed with this An anti-social pessimist but usually I don't mess with this

I'm standoffish, dont want what you're offering And I'm done talking

This song is the perfect example of how an introvert might feel in social settings. She's comfortable around her people, but less interested in spending time around those that she doesn't know or who may not care anything about her.

Another song that stood out to me is by rap artist Dej Loaf featuring Big Sean. In the song "Back Up" Dej Loaf seems to be a little irritated by guys pushing up on her. She may want to go to a party to just to hang out with her people and relax, but wants to avoid the nagging/bragging brotha's trying to holla about what they have and what they can give her. She's not having it. Below is an excerpt from her song:

"Back Up"

Back up off me, back up off me

Back up off me, back up off me

Yah yah bitch, back up off me

You don't know me, I'm too clean, I'm too holy, bitch I'm godly I only go for real niggas who don't brag 'bout what they bought me Cause they know I got a bag, gotta fuck me up some commas

I'm very antisocial, social network ain't my motion (I don't move like that)

Although Dej Loaf spits fire lyrically and gives off that don't fuck with me vibe, outwardly she seems somewhat shy in interviews and soft spoken. I'm not sure if she's an introvert, but I do believe that she is the type of person who likes her privacy and quiet space at times. Now between Alessia telling people that she'll be here over and Dej Loaf telling brotha's to back up off her, I think they should come together to do a collaboration on a song:)

Any Thoughts?

Until Then,

The Quiet Thinker
